One of Asia’s Best – Spring City’s Mountain Course
Spring City Golf Club is home to two championship courses by legendary designers and is located in the city of Kunming, which is regarded as the home of the best courses in China.
The oldest of the two, the Mountain Course provides a thrilling round with its spectacular layout that overlooks the tranquil Yang Zonghai Lake, an inspiring sight.
The Story Behind Spring City
In 1992, the local government approved the US$600 million Spring City Project led by a Singapore’s Keppel Land Group. In 1994, famous course designer Jack Nicklaus commenced work on the Mountain Course that was eventually opened in 1996.
The Spring City Project has welcomed many Prime Ministers and other significant foreign officials, particularly from the Asian and Oceania region.
Furthermore, over the last 20 years, the course has consistently received awards, including being ranked in Top 10 courses in Asia and Golf Digest’s World Top 100 Golf Courses.
The Mountain Course
Whilst not as harsh as its sister course, Spring City’s 18-hole Mountain Course tests even the most experienced players.
Notorious of Nicklaus, the course is well-routed steering around the mountain lakes and through valleys. There are plenty of generous landing areas, however, expect strategically placed bunkers on fairways and around the greens.
Another challenge Nicklaus includes are the bentgrass greens that will keep your round of golf interesting.
The famous Hole 18 has been ranked among the top 500 holes in the world by US Golf Magazine.
The par-4 measures a touch over 460 yards and will intimidate the most experienced golfers. Its main feature is a tricky approach across a ravine toward a small, elevated green.
Did You Know
The Mountain course is more forgiving than its sister, the Lake Course. This is because Jack Nickalus followed the resort brief a little closer than Lake Course designer, Robert Trent Jones Jr.
