Welcome to a blue water paradise… Port Stephens is an idyllic coastal nirvana where the emphasis is on peace and pleasure.
Funnily enough, this stunning and calm seaside town was once planned to be a metropolis by Walter Burley Griffin, the man who designed Canberra. The press claimed Port Stephens would become ‘the New York of Australia’ however, the company went belly-up and the plans for the city never evolved.
And thankfully it didn’t. For its natural beauty is visually stunning and has gifted the region with beautiful and memorable courses.
Aside from the golf, you’ll find a lot of sweet spots in Port Stephens. Swing by the Marina, hook into some fresh seafood, drive over the dunes and enjoy a slice of the good life – it is always above par.
THINGS TO DO IN PORT STEPHENS
Take a dip in the azure waters
Port Stephens is an aquatic playground with 26 white sandy beaches that stretch to crystal-clear waters. The calm bay waters make it ideal for a leisurely swim, or even a paddleboard or kayak which are readily available for you to hire.
Shoal Bay is one of the most popular beaches and is only a 5-minute drive from our hotel. You’ll be mesmerised by the panoramic views of Port Stephens’ iconic and pristine inlet. The bay spans 2.5km so you can be assured there will be plenty of real estate for you to put your towel down, lie back and relax.
A little closer to our hotel is Little Nelson Bay. It’s an enjoyable walk that winds through shops, restaurants and finishes along the beautiful foreshore. While there might not be much sand to put a towel down, it is a perfect spot for you to dive straight in and float away.
Hook into delicious fresh seafood by the waterfront
Dotted along the shoreline are hidden dining gems serving up succulent local seafood such as oysters, crabs, prawns and lobsters. You can’t leave Port Stephens without their catch of the day.
The locals love heading to Little Beach Boathouse to enjoy the region’s freshest seafood. It is only 5 minutes drive from the hotel and has a deck that sits over the waterfront – the ultimate spot for a sundowner. If you’re feeling a little more formal head upstairs for their elegant fine dining.
If you’re looking for fine food with a picture-perfect view then take a 10-minute drive down to Crest Birubi Beach. Its location looks out over the majestic sand dunes of Stockton out to the clear turquoise water over Birubi beach where you could catch migrating whales in the distant. Beware this modern cafe is only open till 3 pm!
Meet the locals on a Whale & Dolphin watching cruise
One of the major attractions at Port Stephens is getting up close to friendly marine life. The area is home to more than 140 bottlenose dolphins and enjoys migrating humpback whales between May and November.
We’ll be gliding through the bay’s crystal waters on our whale & dolphin discovery cruise on tour. Playful dolphins will frolic along beside the boat as you enjoy the cool sea breeze and scenic surroundings of the harbour.
Enjoy the breathtaking views from Tomaree Heads
If you enjoy leisurely walks then you must try the Tomaree Head Summit Walk. The walk is only 2km there and back and boasts the best views of Port Stephens (including the one on the front of our brochure!).
The track starts at the end of Shoal Bay – a 5-minute drive from our hotel. It is clearly signed and paved all the way so you won’t need any prior hiking experience to navigate your way to the top.
