Reserve a Spot at La Reserva, Spain
The La Reserva course at Sotogrande sits aloft on the Andalusian hills offering stunning views all the way down to the Mediterranean Sea. The club is situated on the beautiful Costa del Sol and looks over neighbouring towns San Roque, Valderrama and Sotogrande.
It is fair to say the location alone makes for an exceptionally enjoyable round of golf.
THE STORY BEHIND LA RESERVA
Sotogrande made a name for itself in the golfing world when it hosted continental Europe’s first ever Ryder Cup in 1997. From that moment onwards, the demand for golf courses in the area grew and it was then that La Reserva was born.
Prolific American architect, Cabell Robinson designed a contemporary course that would continue the Sotogrande golfing legacy. Opening in 2003, it hosted the European Tour NH Collection Open in 2014 and in May 2019, it will host a Ladies European Tour event.
Carved into the hillside, you’ll get magnificent views in every direction. The layout is impeccable. It features wide and generous fairways that run to large greens – characterised by gentle but challenging undulations.
More on the greens: they are lightning quick. Where Augusta speeds are around 12-14 for the Masters, La Reserva comes in at 11 on the stimpmeter.
Water hazards are kept to a minimum – only playing a part on 6 holes. However, the lake that flows throughout the course provides an idyllic setting to your round of golf.
Hole 17 is a test, even for the highest level players. It is a classic par 4 which includes an impressive lake that runs along the right-hand side of the hole right to the green.
LA RESERVA CLUBHOUSE
The clubhouse is equally as impressive as the course, designed to blend Andalucian and Moorish influence with its horseshoe-shaped windows, vaulted ceilings and internal courtyards.
