Lucky Ko Olina, Hawaii

The Ko Olina Golf Club is an 18-hole championship course renowned as one of Oahu’s most prestigious courses.

Ko Olina currently hosts the LPGA LOTTE Championship and is ranked in Golf Digest‘s Top 75 Golf Resort courses in the US.

The Story Behind Ko Olina

The land where Ko Olina sits has a very interesting history. Originally, it was a sacred place used for relaxation and rest by Hawaiian chiefs and royalty. During WWII, it was a recreational retreat for the army and navy servicemen. In the 1980s, it was acquired and turned into the resort it is today.

The course was designed in 1990 by renowned course designer Ted Robinson Sr. It was a tournament-worthy course from the start hosting the LPGA Hawaiian Ladies Open the same year it opened. Since 2012, it has been a regular host of the LPGA LOTTE Championship.

The Course

The logo for Ko Olina may be a ladybug, but this ladybug is not to be underestimated. It is a challenging layout.

It features awe-inspiring water features, multi-tiered greens and huge landing areas. The course is a moderate length which makes it perfect for golfers of all levels.

The Signature Hole

You enter the 12th hole driving under a cascading waterfall, that falls behind you as you tee off. It is the definition of a beauty shot!

Did you know

Just like its logo, Ko Olina Golf Club has a Lucky Ladybug Statue. Its plaque reads: “Legend says if she lands on your shoulder sweet talk her to your finger and with a gentle breath, send her off. Lady Luck will lead you to the cup.”
