Play in Paradise at Iguassu Falls Golf Club

Fairly new on the scene, Iguassu Falls Golf Club has golfers teeing off in a tropical paradise. Luscious greens, brilliantly blue water hazards and exotic natural elements bring this course to life.

At the 2018 World Golf Awards, it won the Best Golf Course in Latin America beating two Jack Nicklaus signature designs.

The story behind Iguassu Falls

In 2011, a wealthy Brazilian businessman acquired the Iguassu Resort in order to position it as one of the best in the nation. The golf course was originally designed by a Japanese architect, however, the new owner decided to hire Erik Larsen, a course designer who worked with Arnold Palmer Design for three decades.

In 2015, the 18-hole American-style course was opened and has since held many golfing events for Argentinian, Brazilian and Paraguayan club golfers – the three countries that the property borders.

The course

We’re serious when we say this course is a tropical paradise! Golfers enjoy a colourful tree-lined course with challenging water hazards – though luckily, no waterfalls interrupt this course!

The course’s features vary with mostly generous fairways, however, Larsen has included strategically placed bunkers to make your round interesting. Another feature of the course is the small greens, which demand precision from approaching shots.

The contrasting layout requires golfers to be more technical on the front nine with an emphasis on strategical shot selection. Meanwhile, the back nine is where distance becomes the differential with wider fairways allowing golfers to tee off aggressively.

The signature hole

The 3rd hole is an exciting risk and reward hole. It incorporates a split fairway challenging golfers to choose their fate.

You can play it safe and hit toward the hazard-free left side, but you will face a tough uphill approach over a bunker.

Alternatively, you could be more daring by hitting over a line of bunkers to the right. Pull it off and you will be rewarded with a simple approach to the green.
