A resort layout design. Noosa Springs challenges the experienced player and provides enjoyment for all with fairways cut through scenic tracts of tropical rainforest and others routed round a number of spring-fed pools.
There are several great holes on both nines and no two holes are alike, the outward nine which is home to the 5h, 6th and 7th is isolated from any surrounding development and has attained its own ‘Amen Corner’ reputation.
Designed by 5-time Open championship Peter Thomson and his partner-in-crime Mike Wolveridge, Twin Waters golf club is one of the original championship layouts in Queensland.
The course was created to be like a classic links layout and, besides the humidity of the Sunshine Coast, it is fairly spot-on. The classic British links characteristics like rolling fairways, pot bunkers, thick rough and subtle sloping greens are all present in the layout.
The signature and the most memorable hole at Twin Waters is the par-4 8th hole. It was designed to resemble the famous “road hole” 17th at St Andrew’s, except instead of carrying a hotel, you will face more challenge from the water that runs up the right side.
Once a members-only club, Peregian Springs has rebranded to a stunning public access course that can be enjoyed by players of all standards. It was designed by Adam Scott’s father, Phil, in 2003 and has recently completed a restoration program.
The layout offers a range of strategic options that will force golfers to plot around to avoid running into hazards. Each par-4 and par-5 presents choices for where to hit and fortunately long tee shots are not required. There is also a fun variety of par-3s that are both unique and memorable.
Peregian Springs has many magical holes however the one-shotters at the 8th and 14th hole are beautiful. They are almost equal in length, around the 140-metre mark, but present contrasting scenery. The 8th is surrounded by dense trees, while the 14th is protected by strong bunkers.
The exciting Skins format is a 4-person team event comprising 3 rounds. The top 3 stableford scores from your team (4 players) on each hole will count for the team total. The team scoring the highest stableford total on each hole will win the prizes allocated for that hole. If there is a tie, prizes jackpot to the next hole.
Like the 4-ball format, the ‘slope handicap system’ will be utilised to calculate player handicaps for the Championship rounds. Under the slope system, the difficulty of the golf course and the tee blocks played from determine a player’s handicap prior to the start of each round.
