Lioness on South Africa Safari

South Africa Golf Safari

Archbishop Desmond Tutu affectionately coined the phrase Rainbow Nation to describe post-apartheid South Africa after their first fully democratic election in 1994.

While cultural diversity was the origin for the term, Rainbow Nation is indeed an apt descriptor for the rich palette of sights, aromas and sounds that emanate from South Africa’s iconic flora and fauna.

South Africa has a rich history, a fusion of culture, stunning and diverse landscapes, iconic game viewing, boutique wines and quality golf courses stretching from Pretoria to Cape Town. If you enjoy the challenge of a coastal golf course, there is a stunning selection available. If you prefer playing at altitude, where the ball flies that much further, the selection is just as good.

Starting on 20 February 2018, Go Golfings 17-day fully escorted golf safari features 8 rounds of golf starting in Pretoria, just outside Johannesburg. The tour continues to the lavish playground of Sun City where you play South Africa’s most famous course, Gary Player Country Club. The pristine Kikuyu fairways and bent greens are flawless.

The neighbouring Lost City course is equally impressive. Beware of the 13th hole, a par 3 with Nile crocodiles residing in the moat around the green. Imagine losing a ball into the hazard only to find it is inhabited by crocodiles!

Excitement mounts as you head to Kruger National Park and a sunset game drive confirms you are not alone. Kruger National Park, best known for the Big 5 – lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo and rhino – is recognised as the flagship of Africa and South Africa’s game reserves. You will play a game at White River Golf Club located inside a game reserve.

The golf courses around to the Kruger National Park have a unique charm, animals occasionally crossing the fairways while hippos can be heard at the nearby water holes. Add in the unequalled beauty of the bushveld landscape and it adds up to a very special and unforgettable golf experience.

A short flight to the Cape Winelands and you will find yourself driving along the famous Garden Route. Stretching for 500 miles along the Indian Ocean east of Cape Town, it is a flora wonderland boasting over 8,500 plant species and five of the country’s 12 best courses. You will tee it up at De Zalze, Pezula and the prestigious Fancourt and you will be equally impressed with the wine and food.

Travelling back to Cape Town, Table Mountain dominates the landscape. The final round on tour is at Atlantic Beach, a links-style course without peer that overlooks the Atlantic Ocean.
