Gold Coast Destination Guide

Gold Coast Destination Guide

Ah, the Gold Coast… beautiful one day, perfect the next, you know the drill.

But it’s more than the weather that appeals. It’s the mixture of nightlife attractions, soft sandy beaches, Australia’s best resort courses and much more…  let’s just say they don’t call it Australia’s favourite playground for nothing.

Those who still perceive the Gold Coast as a tacky holiday destination, haven’t recently been to places like Broadbeach and Burleigh. They have been transformed with modern dining restaurants and spectacular bars that has really cleaned up the image of the coast.

Once you get a taste for the coast, we promise you won’t get enough.

THINGS TO DO IN GOLD COAST

Dine and unwind in the Sunshine

You only have to walk as far as a few hundred metres to enjoy Gold Coast’s famous white sandy beaches. Sink your toes into the soft sand and refresh yourself in the crystal-clear water, you’ll catch yourself smiling, thinking this is the good life!

Once you’ve rinsed off, it might be time to go grab yourself a feed. There are some sensational restaurants in Broadbeach for every foodie. From the sophisticated diners at The Social or Moo Moo to the casual at Lucky Squire or Hideaway to the super casual at Broadbeach Tavern or Kurrawa Surf Club, there is something for everyone.

For those who are willing to travel for their tucker, you can’t go past Rick Shores. If it’s not the best restaurant on the coast, it definitely has the best setting looking out over Burleigh beach. Celebrities and social media influencers alike rave about this place, so you know it’s got to be good!

Once you’ve filled up, walk up the stairs to Burleigh Pavilion to continue enjoying the good times and breathtaking view with a refreshing cocktail in hand.

DISCOVER THE BREATHTAKING HINTERLAND

Caught in the shadow of the sun-baked beaches, Gold Coast’s hinterland is often forgotten from tourist itineraries. This region is home to a World Heritage-listed rainforest, award-winning wineries, charming mountain towns and sweeping views of the coast.

Tamborine Mountain is beautiful just to wander through. You can follow the Curtis Falls walking track to the see the cascading waterfalls and bump into unique flora and fauna on the way. Alternatively, you could head down Gallery Walk where the path is lined with friendly local shops filled with fine art and culinary delights.

All this walking will make you thirsty, but don’t worry the Hinterland offers plenty of places to refuel. You can sample liqueurs and spirits at Tamborine Mountain Distillery, or tuck into a pint at Fortitude Brewing Co. If alcohol isn’t your thing there are cafes dotted around the area that serve up local delicacies that will taste as delightful as the service.

SHOP UNTIL YOU DROP… LITERALLY!

When you think of the Gold Coast, shopping doesn’t really come to mind. But did you know it is home to some of the leading shopping centres in the country.

Just a stone’s throw from your hotel, Pacific Fair is an unmissable shopping and dining destination. Once Australia’s largest shopping centre, it boasts over 400 stores that showcase the very best brands from Australia and the world.

If you still have a few dollars left in the budget make sure you get to Harbour Town, the largest outlet shopping centre in Australia. Here you will find bargains galore at all your favourite brands such as Nike, Oroton and Coach to name a few.

IMMERSE YOURSELF IN ITS ICONIC NIGHTLIFE

Ok, I said earlier that Gold Coast has shrugged off its tacky image, but it would be remiss of me not to mention its iconic nightlife.

There are many sophisticated bars to wet your whistle. The Star has a host of them, whether it be outside at the Garden Bar, inside at either the Cherry Bar, Sports Bar (located dangerously close to the pokies) or taking the lift up to the 19th floor at Nineteen, where the dress code is James Bond-esque.

For those who want to party like its 1969, then Surfers will not disappoint. Even if nightclubs aren’t your thing, there are nice bars like The Island rooftop or Hyde Paradiso that come with a beautiful setting for a drink session.
