Brisbane Destination Guide

Brisbane Destination Guide

Brisbane is booming. Once a destination caught in the shadow of its more fun neighbour, the Gold Coast, the state’s capital is fast becoming one of the premier cosmopolitan hubs in the country.

While they might not have any significant landmarks to showcase, they make up for it in new exciting precincts that showcase the state’s unique arts and culture, incredible restaurants and bars, and iconic city backdrop.

We invite you to find out what you can look forward to doing in Brisbane

THINGS TO DO IN BRISBANE

Book into a restaurant on James Street

If you’re looking for the perfect example of Brisbane’s booming cosmopolitan hub check out James Street at Fortitude Valley. It is the city’s, and quite possibly the country’s, foremost retail and lifestyle precinct.

Wander through the shops before rewarding yourself with a delicious meal at one of the restaurants there. In terms of dining options, there is plenty on offer however bookings are essential. Here are some of our picks.

Hellenika serves up mouth-watering Meditteranean delights that perfectly complements its stunning resort location at The Calile Hotel. You will feel like you’re in the Greek Islands, as you break bread over taramasalata, or pulling lamb off the bone, or even sipping on Greek wine.

Another restaurant that will put you into a food coma is sAme sAme. The presentation of the meals are some of the most incredible you will see, and yes, it tastes just as good as it looks. Make sure you accompany your meal with one of their signature gin cocktails, where the garnishes really jump out of the glass.

FLOAT DOWN THE BEAUTIFUL BRISBANE RIVER

One of the signature features of Brisbane is its beautiful waterway. Brisbane River, affectionately known as the “brown snake” (because of its snake-like shape), is the largest in south-east Queensland and perfectly complements the cityscape much like the Yarra River does in Melbourne.

The best way to explore the river is floating down it on a traditional Kookaburra showboat. It’s not just the river itself you’ll enjoy, but a three-course meal, live entertainment and a stunning perspective of Brisbane’s iconic cityscape.

RELAX AND UNWIND IN SOUTHBANK

Southbank is Brisbane’s premier lifestyle and cultural destination. There is a myriad of activities you can enjoy in the precinct from sightseeing, walking, eating and even swimming!

For those who love their arts and culture, this is the city’s cultural epicentre. Here you can gaze over 17,000+ works of modern and contemporary art at the Queensland Art Gallery, interact in the state’s history and heritage at Queensland Museum or catch a show at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre.

For those just looking to chill out, there is plenty of space for some R&R. You can find a spot on the white sand at Australia’s only inner-city, man-made beach, sit back enjoying Brisbane from a new perspective on the ferris wheel, or just plonk yourself on the grass and watch the day go by.

ENJOY A DRINK AND A FEED BY THE RIVER

One of the best places for a sundowner in Brisbane is underneath the famous Storey Bridge along the Howard Smith Wharves. All the restaurants and bars reside right on the riverbank, so no matter what you have in your hand, you’ll enjoy it with stunning views on the river.

For the informal, you can drop into one of the city’s popular micro-breweries, Felons Brewing Co., for a pizza matched with the perfect ale. Alternatively, you can step it up a notch at Mr Percival’s where you can enjoy one of their several spritz variants.

For those looking for a more formal dining experience, there are just as many options to choose from. Whilst we did make mention to the Mediterranean flavours of Brisbane earlier, the Greek taverna Greca cannot be missed, but if you want to try something new let your tongue dance to the exotic Japanese delights at Yoko.
