Antalya Golf Club – A Tale of Two Courses
The Antalya Golf Club is one of Turkey’s most popular golf resorts. Located in Turkey’s famous golf coast, Belek, it features breathtaking views of the Taurus mountains and top quality conditioning combined with beautiful weather all year round.
The club consists of two courses, Pasha and Sultan, which are both ranked in Turkey’s top 10 courses whilst the latter is among the top 100 courses in Continental Europe.
STORY BEHIND ANTALYA GOLF CLUB
Both courses were built in 2003 by European Golf Design. The designers used former European Tour player, David Jones, as a consultant throughout the process.
In 2012, the Sultan course hosted the Turkish Airlines World Cup Final which attracted the world’s best golfers including Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods and, winner, Justin Rose.
THE PASHA COURSE
At first glance, the Pasha course looks inviting – known to be the easier of the two and measuring barely 5700m – but the club warns you “it is no walk in the woods”.
The fairways are wide and open, and there is also consecutive short par 4s on the front and back nine holes.
However, the designers have included undulating greens, blind doglegs and strategically placed bunkers and water hazards to guarantee every kind of golfer will be kept on their toes.
The 11th is the shortest par 4 on the course and deceptively challenging. From the furthest tee, the green is only 230m away making it an easy eagle opportunity, right?
Running down the left of the fairway is a large water hazard, whilst 4 bunkers protect the green. An eagle is still in the offering… for the brave.
THE PGA SULTAN COURSE
The Sultan course is a different beast altogether. Measuring 6,477 metres, consisting of 12 lakes and over 100 bunkers it entices the heartiest of golfers to take on its exciting test.
It doesn’t take long to fall in love with the course, with the 2nd hole surrounded by beautifully framed pine trees followed by the par-3 8th that has a stream to the left and a lake to the right, which collectively have taken thousands of balls before yours.
You will be pleasantly surprised that the back nine is even better. The challenge intensifies with only one par-3 and six consecutive demanding par-4s, but the charming layout and perfect conditioning will delight you.
The 16th par-5 is one of the many memorable holes on the course. It features a lake that runs the length of the hole down the right before a creek knifes across the fairway just in front of the green.
