Golfer Tops 550 Golf Courses Around The World
Brisbane golfer, John Sellwood, will celebrate playing his 550th golf course while on Go Golfing New Zealand North Island in March 2017 and boy are we excited about it. As far back as 5 years ago, John had earmarked Cape Kidnappers for something really special and he is going to make it a reality. It will be the 550th course he plays!
John’s Journey Across the Globe
John has played more than 220 golf courses in Australia and took his love for the game of golf to more than 20 countries. His travels have taken him to some of the best courses and a few “ordinary tracks”.
Ireland is his favourite destination. ” The golf courses in Ireland and Northern Ireland are better than the Scottish courses and certainly better than the English courses in my opinion,” said John who has played 19 Irish courses and 21 in both England and Scotland.
While Ireland might be John’s favourite destination, Canada takes the prize for scenery. “Canada is just sensational for scenery,” said John, who has played 10 courses there. “You almost forget you are playing golf because of the scenery.”
“The Costa del Sol in Southern Spain is great for golf. There, I played my most expensive round of golf. I paid $500 at Valderrama. Well, I was there and I was never going back to Spain so I paid it,” he said.
“I have covered as much of the long distance travel as I can. I have only played 11 courses in New Zealand so I want to play Cape Kidnappers, Kauri Cliffs and Wairakei.”
“It’s going to happen and it looks as if Cape Kidnappers will be the 550th course I play. That will be special.”
So far, John has played at 61 different courses with Go Golfing. He has already been on eight tours and five tournaments with Go Golfing and he’s loved every single trip. This has taken him to Hong Kong, New Zealand South Island, Vietnam, Turkey, Las Vegas, Margaret River and South Africa. Making this his 9th Go Golfing trip, John and his wife Glenda will be joining a group of fun and like-minded travellers on the New Zealand North Island Tour.
New Zealand North Island Tour
On the New Zealand North Island Tour he’ll get the chance to sample exquisite food, experience Maori culture and journey through landscapes that blend magnificent beaches, geothermal wonders and sprawling farmland.
John and the group will be playing stylish courses such as Formosa Golf Resort, one of the best-kept secrets in Auckland and the cleverly designed courses of Wairakei and Kinloch. They’ll visit the Hawkes Bay region and tee off the world famous Cape Kidnappers (John’s 550th course). And, finish at the Royal Wellington Golf Club, recently redesigned and rich in history, and Paraparaumu Beach Golf Club, host of 12 New Zealand Opens.
