Gold Coast to Host 2015 Ladbrokes World Masters Golf Tournament in just Two Weeks
It’s October and the countdown is on to the 20th edition of Australia’s biggest and richest tournament for club golfers. The 2015 Gold Coast golf tournament- the Ladbrokes World Masters- a week long celebration of golf, social and entertainment events for club golfers aged 35 plus kicks off on Sunday 25 October.
The event has attracted a sell-out field of 700 players, representing 147 golf clubs throughout Australia, as well as visitors from New Zealand, Asia and North America.
The support of new sponsor Ladbrokes has allowed tournament organisers, Go Golfing, to significantly upgrade the event experience for golfers and their partners. The four round tournament will see participants play The Pines at Sanctuary Cove, Links Hope Island, The Glades and Royal Pines Resort. This is the first time in the tournament’s 20 year history that The Pines, an exclusive member only course, has been a host venue.
Seventeen year tournament veteran Tony Tusa from New Zealand is excited to play The Pines at Sanctuary Cove as part of the 2015 event experience:
I remember watching Norman, Nicklaus and Player on tv compete for riches at the Sanctuary Cove Skins events back in the early 90’s. I have made more than 30 golf trips to the Gold Coast and this year’s Ladbrokes World Masters is the first time I have been able to tee it up at The Pines.
Other upgrades to this year’s event program include a brand new 19th Hole venue – poolside at Mercure Resort Gold Coast. Each night during Masters week, participants will be able to taste fine wines, craft beers, imported cheeses and other culinary temptations. There will be awards of daily golf winners and live entertainment, headlined by Tuesday’s beach party and Friday night’s country and western theme complete with bush band.
Melbourne event veteran, Laurie Littman, looks forward to the Masters every year:
There are no strangers at the Masters, just friends you haven’t met yet. This is my sixteenth straight year and the event organisation runs like clockwork. This year’s courses are fabulous and the 19th Hole events are always a lot of fun. You grab a beer and just start chatting, it’s great like that.
Ladbrokes, a leading provider of online racing and sports betting, are backing the World Masters. Keen to reward event participants, Ladbrokes are putting up $5,000 for players who score a hole in one. Given that there were 3 hole-in-ones at last year’s event, that’s a nice bonus.
Golf manufacturer Srixon are also providing unique experiences for participants. In what is sure to be the country’s biggest demo event, from 10am to 3pm on Sunday 25 October at Palm Meadows Driving Range, golfers will be able to test drive the distance and accuracy of their clubs against the latest Srixon equipment. Ball fitting technology will tell you what golf ball is right for you. There will also be long drive, nearest the pin and short game promotions with great prizes.
Non-playing partners certainly haven’t been forgotten. Every day there are activities scheduled – high tea, cooking classes, shopping and a river cruise.
The 2015 Gold Coast golf tournament festivities wind up with a glamorous gala presentation dinner. More than $120,000 prizes are awarded, making it the richest tournament for club golfers. After the presentations revellers dance the night away.
With participants staying an average of 8 nights and spending more than $2,900 each, the event is a welcome boon for golf and tourism on the Gold Coast.
