ITINERARY:
Day 1: Thursday 2 February
Arrival into Auckland and transfer to our hotel, The Stamford Plaza Auckland. Located centrally located and provides guests with extensive views of the marina, Auckland Harbour Bridge and Waitemata Harbour. The city’s finest bars, restaurants, cafes, casino, shops and shows are all within easy walking distance. We’ll then freshen up for a pre-dinner drink before sampling a selection of local wines and buffet dinner.
Day 2: Friday 3 February
After breakfast we transfer to Titirangi golf club for our first round in the North Isle. Boasting a reputation as one of Auckland’s premium golf experiences, Titirangi can proudly present itself as New Zealand’s only Alister McKenzie designed layout. Featuring elevated tees and greens, challenging pot bunkers and slick undulating greens. A unique characteristic is the four par threes, each of them face the four points on the compass, engaging different test on each. On our return to Auckland we’ll have time to freshen up before an unforgettable two hour sailing adventure on Auckland Harbour. Usually the domain of billionaires or elite yachties this is a unique opportunity to participate on these grand prix racing yachts. Take the helm, work the grinders on an actual America’s Cup yacht or sit back and enjoy the salty breeze. (No experience necessary) Evening at leisure.
DAY 3: Saturday 4 February
A relaxed breakfast, before our 10.30 scenic drive to the Pauanui Lakes Resort. Nestled in a sun drenched valley and surrounded by forestry is the idyllic location of New Zealand’s premier golfing resort and residential community. The course meanders through native wetlands, blending wonderfully with its bush surroundings. Rated in the country’s top 6 courses, the greens, tees and fairways are among the best. Evening at leisure.
DAY 4: Sunday 5 February
This morning we depart the resort for Mount Maunganui, located in the picturesque Bay of Plenty. Named after the extinct volcano that rises dominantly above the town. A links style course embedded within the sand dunes of Mt Maunganui, the course offers a challenge to golfers of all levels. Non golfers visit Mount Maunganui—shops and hot pools are within easy reach. Following our golf we’ll check in to The Sebel Trinity Wharf.
DAY 5: Monday 6 February
Following breakfast, we travel from Tauranga to Lake Taupo. Enroute we visit Rotorua—set amidst a landscape of erupting geothermal activity, hot thermal springs and hot bubbling mud pools is the Living Maori village of Whakarewarewa. An insightful tour of the region and how the Maori’s have come to live in harmony with this unique environment. An enjoyable cultural performance and traditional Hangi luncheon will delight the senses. After lunch we make our way to the tranquil village of Lake Taupo. Evening at leisure.
DAY 6: Tuesday 7 February
After a delicious breakfast in Bistro Lago, we travel the short distance to the prestigious Wairakei International Golf Course. Woven amid volcanic contours, course designer John Harris sculpted elevated tees, greens to complement the terrain and natural landscape. In 1970 Harris sought the expertise of Mike Wolveridge and our own Peter Thomson to create a truly great championship course layout. The course is located within the Wairakei Geothermal Park. The region is known as the Central Volcanic Plateau for good reason, Lake Taupo was formed by one of the largest volcanic eruptions known to man. Non golfers are free to explore Lake Taupo.
DAY 7: Wednesday 8 February
A treat for lovers of links style golf today. Kinloch golf club, one of the newest golf offerings and the only Nicklaus course in New Zealand is a proud testament to Nicklaus’s commitment to make not one signature hole but 18 holes of outstanding quality. It would be easy to become distracted with the sweeping views, however Nicklaus’ clever design ensures you maintain focus through all 18 holes to score well. Evening at leisure.
DAY 8: Thursday 9 February
An early morning departure as we make our way to the art deco hamlet of Napier. But not before sampling the best of New Zealand’s culinary delights. Start the afternoon with an exclusive barrel sampling, interactive tasting, fully guided commentary, champagne sunset from Te Mata Peak and a 3 course progressive dinner at New Zealand’s top winery restaurants. Wine served with dinner Check in to the Scenic Hotel Te Pania. Evening at leisure.
DAY 9: Friday 10 February
After a hearty breakfast at the Exchange Brasserie. It’s time for our final golfing encounter the breathtaking Cape Kidnappers Golf Course overlooking Hawke’s Bay. Hailed as one of the great modern marvels in golf. It will be an overwhelming experience to stand up on a cliff, 140 meters above sea level. Cape Kidnappers is not a true links terrain, with wrinkles of sand dunes, instead the land tilts toward the sea as a series of ridges. Yes the play is seaside golf at its finest, a fitting finale! This evening we will celebrate our time in the North Island with a private dinner at The Lodge, Cape Kidnappers.
DAY 10: Saturday 11 February
Following breakfast we’ll make our way from Napier to Auckland by coach with stops along the way for lunch. Guests are able to depart tour in Napier. See details for Kauri Cliffs 5 night extension tour (departs Auckland).
