2011 ITINERARY:
Day 1: Arrival at Barcelona International Airport. Our hotel is conveniently located in the city central just 10kms from the airport and right on Las Ramblas, Barcelona's iconic art, restaurant and entertainment avenue. Check in at Le Meridien Hotel & prepare for our welcome dinner. (D)
Day 2: Breakfast in CentOnze Restaurant and then an insightful 1/2 day city tour. Discover one of the most beautiful and vibrant cities of Spain. See the main highlights of Barcelona as we explore Plaza de Catalunya, Via Laietana, the Cathedral and many more. This afternoon we will learn how to prepare Spain's national dish Paella whilst enjoying harbour views, a selection of tapas and sangria. A bit of friendly competition when the chef blind tastes the dishes and awards our master chef! This evening we are at leisure and free to take in the colour and sight of Barcelona at night. Day 3: An early breakfast and then we'll be transferred to El Prat Golf Course for our first round of the tour. Designed by Greg Norman, the Real Club de golf El Prat is a prestigious start to our tour. This evening we'll be mesmerised by the artistry of the Flamenco Show, Spain's traditional show dance and feast are sure to entertain. (B/D)
Day 4: Following breakfast we'll transfer to the airport for our short flight to the south of Spain, Malaga. This coastal region is a popular holiday destination for its kilometres of beaches and lush golfing greens set along the coast of Marbella. This afternoon, a relaxing tour of the city's highlights. Check in at the 5* Puente Romano Hotel. Evening at leisure. (B)
Day 5: An exciting day of golf and cruising the Mediterranean. We start the day with 18 holes at Marbella Golf Club. Carefully contoured fairways, beautiful waterfalls, lakes and strategically placed bunkers are features of this spectacular course. Following golf , time to freshen up before our afternoon cruise on the turquoise waters of Marbella —we may even see dolphins at play! Evening at leisure. (B)
Day 6: After a hearty breakfast, in café Puente, get ready for a golfing treat at the Sotogrande Golf Club. An exclusive members only course, often rated among the top 10 in Europe, the pedigree of winners demonstrates quality of the course. Get your tastebuds ready for another gourmet experience this afternoon at Bodega Quitapenas a fifth generation winery known for it's muscatel's, we'll enjoy a guided tasting—the best way to experience the magic. This evening we are at leisure, try one of the many dining options at the hotel from fine dining to Moroccan fare. (B)
Day 7: Following a leisurely breakfast we'll be enjoying a day tour to the exotic and fascinating city of Tangiers in Morocco. A short ferry ride across the Strait of Gibraltar to the bustling portside town . We will discover a labyrinth of alleyways populated with coffee & Moroccan textile stores. A walk around the famous Kasbah and visit to the souk for spices will be a colourful experience not to miss as is the camel ride. This afternoon a gourmet lunch featuring regional fare will delight. Day 8: An early morning breakfast followed by golf at Aloha Golf Course . This afternoon, plenty of time to relax by the beach, check out the shopping nearby & explore Marbella. Evening at leisure. (B)
Day 9: This morning following breakfast we'll check out of our hotel and transfer to the airport for our flight to Faro, Portugal. Check in at the 5 star Monte da Quinta Suites Hotel, Quinta Le Lago. An afternoon at leisure to relax and rejuvenate. (B)
Day 10: Breakfast and then we'll take to the fairways of Vale de Loco Ocean Course, located on the coastline with spectacular views of the Mediterranean. This afternoon a swim in the warm waters or a walk through the town and sample some Portuguese delicacies. This evening is at leisure. (B)
Day 11: After our hearty breakfast, our next golfing challenge awaits at the Vale de Lobo Royal Course, rolling fairways set amidst pine trees and beautiful lakes surrounded by wild flowers. The famous 16th with it's cliff-top carry over is one of the most celebrated golf images the world over. Evening at leisure. (B)
Day 12: A hearty breakfast and then we'll make our way to the airport to fly the short journey to Lisbon. This afternoon we'll check in at the boutique Penha Longa Hotel Spa & Golf Resort. A walk in the grounds will uncover a landmark monastery set amongst rolling hills, lush gardens and clear lakes of the southern Sintra Mountains. Evening at leisure. (B)
Day 13: A real treat for foodies today when we leave the clubs behind and pick up the wooden spoon for our Portuguese Cooking Class and gourmet luncheon. Pick up tips for perfect Portuguese cooking, private luncheon included. Evening at leisure. (B/L)
Day 14: Lisbon has many wonderful golf courses and today we'll play arguably one of the best, Penha Longa described as an adrenalin rush and a soothing journey through one of Portugal's most inspiring landscapes. Exciting at every turn, this championship layout is host to the Portuguese Open, a master of thrills and variety. Evening at leisure. (B)
Day 15: Enjoy a late breakfast and chance to sleep in before we visit some of the regions renowned wineries and delicatessens. This afternoon a tour to the stunning region of Sintra an important town in the history of the Lisboa. Evening at leisure. (B)
Day 16: Breakfast and our last round of golf at the stunning Oitavos Dunes Golf Course. Home of the 2009 Portuguese Open, it is considered the most exclusive golf and leisure resort in Portugal. This afternoon plenty of time to get in some last minute shopping of local handcrafts and artefacts, great shopping at some of Europe's least expensive prices! Evening at leisure. (B)
Day 17: A pilgrimage to the city of Bethlehem and a visit to Jeronimo's Monastery and St Georges Castle. A trip to Bethlehem is not complete without visiting the village patisserie. This evening we'll conclude our gourmet experience with a gala presentation dinner featuring fresh local cuisine and regional wines, perfect to salute our victors and relive all of the wonderful memories. Day 18: A hearty breakfast and fond farewells before we transfer to Lisbon International Airport for our return flight or onward journey (group airfare transfer). (B)
