Go Golfing Gift Card - The Ultimate Gift For Every Golfer

World-renowned skins competition a first on the Gold Coast

Amateur golfers will soon have the opportunity to experience the world-renowned skins competition concept that has previously only been available to PGA tour professionals.

Go Golfing's inaugural Ultimate Skins tournament will be the first of its kind in Australia when it tee's off at the Gold Coast's RACV Royal Pines Resort from 17-21 June.

Traditionally the four player skins tournaments have only been available to PGA tour professionals with the LG Skins and the Canadian Telus Skins the most notable events, with players competing for million dollar prize pools.

Go Golfing managing director Peter McCarthy says the concept of the Skins competition has been around since 1983 and has since evolved into a competition for major money prizes.

"Greg Norman won $1 million in the 2001 LG Skins and Annika Sorenstam won $100,000 on the first day in the same event in 2003," Mr McCarthy says.

"While the Ultimate Skins tournament prize pool will be a more modest $7,000, we think the first year will set the benchmark to grow the competition to something bigger in following years."

"With each hole worth a minimum $200, there's going to be plenty to play for over the 27 holes."

"Players will be coming from all areas in Australia and New Zealand to compete in this Australian first."

Those competing will play three rounds of the 27 holes each day in teams of two and their combined stableford scores will be totalled for each hole over the three rounds.

The team with the highest stableford total on each hole wins the allocated prizes and if there is a tie, the prizes jackpot to the next hole with all teams back in the hunt.

The first Skins Game held included Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson, Arnold Palmer, and Gary Player as the participants.

Go Golfing is renowned for running Australia's biggest amateur golfing tournament, The Mitsubishi World Masters Golf Championships each year on the Gold Coast for the past 17 years.
