Stars of Ireland Golf Tour

01-13 July 2017

13 Days – 6 Rounds of golf

When it comes to golf, Ireland delivers. This fully escorted golf tour will see you tee off at the ‘must-play’ stars of the Irish links golf. This delivers one of the finest golfing experience in the world. For golfers, it does not get any better than this – and once you have experienced those great layouts you will be smiling. Beyond golf, Ireland is a land of unsurpassed beauty and fascination. While it is rugged along its jagged coastline, it is also idyllically serene in the hills and on the grassy plains that seem to stretch forever. No wonder this land has inspired poets and mystics.

You’ll begin your golfing journey in Dublin at The Island (a historic golf at its best), and wind your way through the very best the south-west has to offer with Old Head (which sits on one of the most spectacular landforms on the planet), followed by Tralee (it convinces you that Arnold Palmer knows something about golf), Waterville (co-owned by golfaholic American hedge-fund zillionaire), Ballybunion and Lahinch (which Tom Watson labeled ‘the’ best links course in the world).

You’ll feel like golfing royalty staying at Dromoland Castle Hotel, partake in a sumptuous medieval banquet, soak up the Irish culture and hospitality in popular pubs, go back to the ancestral roots of many Australians, take in the breathtaking rural landscape sprinkled with quaint villages, and have the best time of your life playing golf. While golfers play, non-golfers will be whisked off to explore the local area.

This is a bucket list tour and “your cup will runneth over.” Want more bucket list golf? Join our “In the Footsteps of the Greats” Scotland tour…

On arrival you will be met at Dublin airport by our hosts and transferred to O’Callaghan Davenport Hotel. Located in the true heart of Dublin, this historic hotel is the perfect location to explore vibrant Dublin, with Trinity College, Merrion Square, and the National Gallery of Ireland all in walking distance. The day and evening is yours to get comfortable and explore as you wish.

Hotel: O’Callaghan Davenport Hotel

DAY 2: Sunday 02 July DUBLIN

After a true Irish breakfast and a brief update from our tour host, we transfer to the Guinness Storehouse for a private tour and to learn the craft of pouring a pint of this iconic Irish brew. We then continue on to tour the city of Dublin. After time to refresh and rejuvenate at our hotel, we will make our way out for a true Irish welcome dinner and drinks at a very famous Merry Ploughboy Irish Pub.

Hotel: O’Callaghan Davenport Hotel (B,D)

DAY 3: Monday 03 July DUBLIN

This morning you wake up with anticipation as we prepare for our first taste of championship links golf at The Island Golf Club. This is one of the oldest golf courses in Ireland as it was founded in 1890. This traditional, private, members only club is located on some of the most stunning dunes on the east coast of Ireland. Evening is at leisure.

Hotel: O’Callaghan Davenport Hotel (B)

DAY 4: Tuesday 04 July KINSALE

After breakfast, we bid farewell to Dublin and make our way out to County Cork. On our way, we visit the Rock of Cashel and wind our way through the lush Irish countryside into the township of Blarney. After time for lunch, we visit Blarney Castle famous for its stone of eloquence. Built nearly 600 years ago, it has gone on to become one of Irelands many national treasures. After we have kissed the famous stone, we continue on to the well appointed MacDonald Hotel. Evening at leisure.

Hotel: MacDonald Hotel, Kinsale (B)

DAY 5: Wednesday 05 July KINSALE

After breakfast, we transfer to the Old Head Golf Links for one of the most picturesque golfing experiences imaginable. Just imagine playing on a golf course extending nearly 2 miles out into the Atlantic Ocean, and with a network of caves and tunnels running beneath your feet, it will be a surreal experience for many. Be sure to pack the camera as this will be a round to cherish long past the 19th. Evening at leisure.

Hotel: MacDonald Hotel, Kinsale (B)

DAY 6: Thursday 06 July KILLARNEY

After breakfast, we check out and wind our way through the Western Cork countryside. With ample time to stop off along the way, we will arrive into the pretty little town of Kenmare for lunch. After time to explore the craft shops, galleries, and cafes, we continue on to Killarney where we check in at the Randles Court Hotel. Evening is at leisure.

Hotel: Randles Court Hotel, Killarney (B)

DAY 7: Friday 07 July KILLARNEY

After breakfast, we transfer to Tralee Golf Club for yet another special round. Tralee was the first Arnold Palmer design in Ireland. According to folklore, Palmer created the front nine and mother nature did the rest. His design will stimulate your senses right from the first tee and promises to keep your attention right until the last putt drops. Since opening in 1984, Tralee has consistently ranked as one of the best layouts in Ireland. Evening is at leisure.

Hotel: Randles Court Hotel, Killarney (B)

DAY 8: Saturday 08 July KILLARNEY

After breakfast, we head off to discover Killarney National Park and the Killarney region. We then continue onto the township of Dingle with time for lunch, before continuing along the Wild Atlantic Way’s Dingle Peninsula. This incredible coastline will be a real highlight for many, as we make our way towards Dunmore Head, which is regarded as the westernmost point of Ireland and all of Europe for that matter.

Following plenty of awe-inspiring photo opportunities, we will make our way back into Killarney.

Hotel: Randles Court Hotel, Killarney (B)

DAY 9: Sunday 09 July KILLARNEY

Following breakfast, we will sightsee along the famous Ring of Kerry on our way to Waterville Golf Links. This stunning links layout once again utilises a spectacular coastal location to captivate at every turn. There are few courses that can boast such a collection of unique and great golf holes. The view from the par three 17th named Mulcahy Peak after founder Jack Mulcahy is simply breathtaking.

Hotel: Randles Court Hotel, Killarney (B)

DAY 10: Monday 10 July CLARE

After breakfast and check out, we play Ireland’s #1 course, currently ranked in the top 20 courses worldwide. Ballybunion Golf Club is a truly mesmerising links layout. Surrounded by Ireland’s largest sand dunes, it is almost as if this pocket of land has been sculpted purely for links golf. Following our round, we continue onto our final stop at the magical Dromoland Castle Hotel.

Hotel: Dromoland Castle Hotel, Clare (B)

DAY 11: Tuesday 11 July CLARE

After breakfast at the castle, we will head off to the staggeringly beautiful Cliffs of Moher. We then make our way to Liscannor, a small seaside village, and onto the infinitesimally small Doolin area. For those who would prefer to get out on the links, the Dromoland Castle golf course is calling your name. This evening, we partake in a fun outing with a medieval banquet and show at Bunratty Castle.

Hotel: Dromoland Castle Hotel, Clare (B,D, Optional golf)

DAY 12: Wednesday 12 July CLARE

Following breakfast, we head out to enjoy our final round at Lahinch Golf Club. First established in 1892 by three local Limerick golfers, this course has maintained its status as one of the world’s best links layouts ever since. In 1927, the layout was re-worked by the famous Dr Alistair Mackenzie. After the Lahinch Committee ruled the greens to be too hard in 1935 and flattened them out, the course underwent a full restoration in 1999 to Mackenzie’s characteristics. There is plenty of time for a Guinness or Whiskey at the 19th. Tonight we celebrate our winners and our tour of Ireland in true Irish tradition with a presentation dinner at the castle.

Hotel: Dromoland Castle Hotel, Clare (B,D)

DAY 13: Thursday 13 July CLARE

Time to farewell our fellow travellers and make our way back to Dublin airport for our onward flights. Some of us will be continuing on to the Go Golfing Scotland Golf Tour. (B)
