DAY 1 Tuesday 13 October 2015
Your amazement of China starts on arrival to the space age Kunming airport. You will be transferred to Spring City Resort, home for the next 6 nights. Get to know your host and tour companions at our welcome banquet this evening. (D)
Day 2 Wednesday 14 October 2015
Your Chinese golfing odyssey starts with 18 holes at Spring City’s ‘Lake Course.’ Carved into the mountainous landscape, the Lake Course makes full use of the ravines and rock cliffs, meandering down to the lake. This spectacular 18-hole golf course is set on the banks of the Yang Zonghai Lake and is world-renowned for its narrow fairways, criss-crossing trenches, green terraces and breathtaking lake views.
Today non golfers will be guided through Jiuxiang Cave and be awed by the Stone Forest National Park. Jiuxiang is crowned as the “museum of karst caves”. With over 100 caves to explore, they are large in scale, time-honoured in history, diversified in shapes and jaw-dropping in scenery. Shilin, or the Stone Forest National Park, has been known since the Ming Dynasty as the 1st Wonder of the World. You need to see it to fully appreciate just how spectacular it really is. (B)
DAY 3 Thursday 15 October 2015
Kunming’s idyllic year-round weather has inspired many courses to be developed in the region and today you enjoy one of the best – Yunling Golf Club. The first nine occupy rolling, generally treeless terrain, while the second nine has been carved from a mixed forest of conifers and deciduous trees. There are also prominent rock outcrops on site that have been incorporated into the design of the course.
Non golfers will tour Kunming City. (B)
Day 4 Friday 16 October 2015
Golfing every day might be too much, so we down tools for a day tour including Yunnan Minority Village, downtown shopping in Kunming and finish the day with an insight into China’s unique cultural heritage at the Yunnan Impression Culture Show and dinner. (B,D)
Day 5 Saturday 17 October 2015
Stone Forest is arguably the world’s most awe inspiring golf course. At the same time it will leave you scratching your head as to how approval was granted to build 3 courses in a World Heritage National Park. A perfectly manicured course meandering through columns of stone – well you won’t find anything like this anywhere else in the world.
Non golfers will have the morning at leisure before a blissful afternoon, soaking up the minerals at the local hot springs. (B)
Day 6 Sunday 18 October 2015
Our final round at Spring City is on the Mountain Course. Designed by Jack Nicklaus, this postcard perfect course overlooks Yang Zonghai Lake and verdant hills, and the views will be both inspiring and soothing. The course is a true test to golf, with bunkers strategically placed on fairways and around the greens. Are you up for the challenge!!!
An authentic Chinese cooking class awaits for non golfers this morning, and your afternoon is at leisure. (B)
Day 7 Monday 19 October 2015
Today we continue our golfing pilgrimage with a short flight from Kunming to Shenzhen where we check into the world’s biggest golf resort – Mission Hills. We choose to stay in the luxurious Mission Hills Dongguan. (B)
Day 8 Tuesday 20 October 2015
All of the courses at Mission Hills are named after their creators. Our first round is the Annika Sorenstam course, set against a backdrop of mountains rising more than 300m above the course. The dramatic elevation changes throughout the course ensure there are panoramic tee shots perched high above spacious fairways that cut through valleys.
Non golfers will find it takes at least a day to explore Mission Hills, from the Centreville Shopping and hospitality district to the Movie Town – there will be plenty to keep you busy. (B)
Day 9 Wednesday 21 October 2015
We recommend you bring your ‘A Game’ today for your round on the Olazabal Course. Known for his mastery with the sand wedge, Olazabel has strategically placed 151 bunkers on course. The 15th hole alone has 24 bunkers. With a reputation as a master of the sand wedge you will have your work cut out for you going up against 151 bunkers.
Non golfers tour Shenzhen with a morning visit to the Fairy Lake botanical gardens before heading to the Dafen Oil Painting Village, claimed to be the largest art village in Asia, before finishing the day bargaining and bartering on high quality ‘almost genuine’ luxury goods. (B)
Day 10 Thursday 22 October 2015
The World Cup Course, named in honour of the 41st World Cup of Golf hosted by Mission Hills in 1995, was designed by 18-time major champion Jack Nicklaus. This is Asia’s most awarded course and remains the #1 ranked course in Asia.
Non golfers have a difficult choice of venturing back to the shopping malls or indulging in spa treatments. For those that really can’t decide – you could do both!
Tonight we celebrate our champions and toast new friendships at a farewell dinner. (B,D)
Day 11 Friday 23 October 2015
There’s just enough time to squeeze in one last game and we have selected the Els Course. A lush backdrop of dense tree growth juxtaposed against wide swaths of manicured turf evokes a “maintained garden” aesthetic reminiscent of Els’ South African homeland.
We return to Hong Kong for international flights home or you may wish to extend your stay with a few days in Hong Kong post tour.
